As I (being Stephen) live in California now, it has a tendency to get hot some days. Take 90-degree temperatures, lock a movie fan in a room with no AC, and record his ramblings for 30 minutes: the result isn’t pretty, people. It also explains the weird ever-present sound of… nothing in the background.
Don’t worry, next time out we switch and Al has all the weird interference.
Anyway! Despite sweating more than Marlon Brando in Apocalypse Now, we managed to put together a semi-coherent half-hour of movie talk, as we catch up with the news we’ve missed talking about for the last six months, including:
- Al’s thoughts on Watchmen, the DVD Experience
- our pre-backlash backlash on Avatar
- Leo D-C in Inception and Shutter Island
- the trailer for Men Who Stare at Goats, which leads naturally into us starting rumours about Ewan MacGregor and The Hobbit
- Al’s thoughts about Frightfest (of course, he didn’t go) and The Wolfman
- Then a final movie medley including Captain America, Youth in Revolt, Ninja Assassin and Kick Ass!
All that packed into 30 minutes! What more could you want in a free podcast??
Well, after another *cough* unavoidable delay in editing – at least, not tied to some awards show or other this time – we’re back with show #27. The same number as Batman’s debut in Detective Comics.
A useless piece of trivia? Or perhaps something… symbolic of a show that dives into the ins and outs of the long-awaited Watchmen. Well I say dives, more ‘dips a toe in and then runs away ‘cos it’s cold’.
As well as that we have some stuff… to say… about things… but I forgot what it was, just like we did, repeatedly, while recording this. Come for the reviews! Stay for the… uhh.. what was it again?
On the day of the Oscars, we bring you… a show that’s 10 days late in the editing, so don’t expect it to be bang up to date. However! Between us by the time we sat down to record this show, we’d see four out of five of the Oscar contenders. Can you guess which ones??
With not much else to talk about, we concern ourselves this time out with trailers, wild speculation and libel on the part of a certain ex-Miramax chairman. If we weren’t quoting chapter and verse from Peter Biskind’s Down and Dirty Pictures, that is.
Al and I both have a few choice things to say about Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, or Inglorious Bastards, or however you want to spell it. That leads us neatly (?) onto Watchmen, just a few weeks away now people, and of course that leads on to books, and George Lucas, and… err… Frost/Nixon.
So obviously, you need to download the episode just to see how we got from A to Z.
PS: This show is dedicated to Henry Reid, born 17th February 2009 to Al and Liz.
