Show #14 – Overdue reviews

It’s about time we got around to reviewing a few movies, so… here we go with almost wall-to-wall (or end-to-end, if you prefer) reviews of flicks we have seen down the cinema. Erm, and on DVD.

As well as my views on Rocky Balboa – a flick now so old, it’s starting to look like Sly Stallone (Oh, the hilarity) we also talk about Dreamgirls, Hot Fuzz and French action flick / le parkour showcase, District 13 (aka Banlieue 13). Oh, and somewhere in there Al saw Children of Men on DVD.

All this, plus news on 300’s box office success, some talk about Indiana Jones 4 (again) and a brand-new, punchy reviews format devised by that mad genius, my brother Al.

Opening and closing music is a gentle ditty from The Firm by Dave Grusin – me likey. Tried a higher bitrate for this show and I think it sounds a bit better… do let us know if you object to the larger filesize. You know where to find us!

Show #2 – Children of Men, An Inconvenient Truth and more

Show numero dos! Is that Spanish? I hope so, and that’s a clue to the identity of the director of a movie I saw. This week. How much more cryptic can I be?

Pathetic Technical Excuses Dept: Between my creaking headphones and very sensitive microphone, and Al’s whispering, there’s quite a difference between our two tracks and some weird creaky noises throughout. You can still, you know, hear what we say and stuff though, so don’t bloody bitch to me.

Show Notes

  • 00:00 – Introduction. Which I hear you generally do at the start.
  • 00:45 – Wow, that was fast. Professional, I told you. Guess The 25 Word Review!
  • 02:00 – This is on rails, people! News time; Robert Downey Jr. is Iron Man.
  • 08:54 – More news… Warner Bros. selling Superman Returns on DVD for $2 a pop??
  • 13:30 – “Movies we’ve seen in the cinema.”
  • 14:05 – An Inconvenient Truth. The plan was to not talk about this much.
  • 18:30 – Little Miss Sunshine. Essentially, National Lampoon’s Dysfunctional Vacation.
  • 20:15 – Children of Men. Has it been released in the US? Actually, I don’t care. (This makes more sense if you’ve listened to the podcast.)
  • 26:00 – Discussing Al’s fat, fugitive arse, and how it relates to DVD rental services.
  • 27:55 – The Day of the Triffids. Yes, a TV show. Yes, a 20-year old TV show. Are we on topic, or what?
  • 28:50 – Survivors. A 30 year old TV show. We’re gonna cut this from the edit. I swear.
  • 29:24 – Mysterious Skin. “Traumatic. To say the least.”
  • 37:00 – The Squid and the Whale. Can you believe Al talked more about Mysterious Skin than I did about Children of Men? Goddamn showboater.
  • 38:40 – Coffee and Cigarettes. Difference of opinion here, kids. Oooh.
  • 39:29 – Steve Coogan’s slow break-in to Hollywood via Happy Endings. (PS: Turns out he might be making an Alan Partridge movie after all!)
  • 41:40 – The 25 Word Review… revealed! Don’t skip ahead. It’s cheating.
  • 43:10 – Wrapping up… computerised audio spam… biggest bloody laughs of the show. And we’re outta here!

Come back soon, y’all.
