Show #7 – Casino Royale

At last!!

Yes, finally, Al got around to seeing Casino Royale… so as a special, all-out treat just in time for the end of the year, we’re talking Bond, baby.

No show notes this time out, because it’s all just about one movie.

However as a side note to something we mention in the podcast, I did want to point out that in addition to John Gardner, who wrote official Bond novels between 1981 and 1996, Raymond Benson has also written a bunch of them, culminating with the novelisation of Die Another Day in 2002.

More info on John Gardner, including some very interesting comments on his time as a Bond author, is available on his homepage:

http://www.john-gardner.com/

An overview of all the Bond novels, including those written by Fleming, Gardner, Benson and Amis (Kingsley Amis, no less!) is available courtesy of Raymond Benson himself, right here:

(Links are simplified for iTunes subscribers. Ain’t I nice.)

Next time out – the unmissable Tagline review of 2006, along with movies that are, you know, current. Well they are now. By then, they probably won’t be.

Have a fantastic New Year’s Eve and we’ll be talking to you in 2007!

PS Ignore this bit; it’s just me claiming our Odeo channel (odeo/19d1f72a02303f32)

Show #6 – John McClane is bald. Deal with it.

It’s Christmaaaaaaaaaas! And in the world of movies, that just means one thing: John McClane is back. Well, he’s not back yet, he’s back next year, but there’s a teaser out for the fourth Die Hard flick and surprisingly, it takes up a lot of our talking time.

On top of that, loads of talk about Superman: The Ultimate Collection, more ragging on Eragon (geddit) and plenty of DVDs and stuff. A stuffed show for Chrimbo!

Take a listen and if you enjoy, please feel free to drop us an email and/or a comment on the site.

Show notes

00:00 – Our brief intro ‘theme’ – excerpted from Spybreak, by Propellerheads, from The Matrix Original Soundtrack.

00:15 – Introduction time…

01:23 – News! Starting with the traditional box-office rundown. Featuring Eragon, The Pursuit of Happyness and Charlotte’s Web. Who came out on top?

05:04 – The only nice thing we’ll say about Eragon for this podcast; we got some facts about it wrong. Oh, that and The Big Sleep.

05:44 – Pulp movies are coming back! Sam Raimi will (probably) direct a new version of The Shadow.

09:23 – And Guillermo Del Toro may direct a new Tarzan flick. Fancy.

13:14 – “We might as well talk about trailers because we haven’t seen any movies.”

13:30 – Live Free or Die Hard. Which totally is the title. Believe it or not, just about all that Al can talk about is Bruce Willis’ lack of hair.
22:42 – The Hitcher, as in the remake.

28:30 – Epic Movie. Oh Gods, save us from the remake of the spoofs of the remakes….

30:46 – Al’s seen C.R.A.Z.Y. As in, zee crazee French flick.

32:15 – Rollerball. The original, not the remake, kids.

36:00 – Lords of Dogtown, the ‘fictional’ version of the documentary Dogtown and Z-Boys, written by the guy who directed the documentary and is one of the main characters. But doesn’t play himself. Confused?

39:12 – Stephen’s finally got ahold of Superman: The Ultimate Collection (available at Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.com and Play.com – although it looks sold out everywhere!). It just doesn’t get any bigger than this, Superman fans. Or nerdier.

48:23 – Christmas Hangover Movies That Make You Cry. This was all Al’s idea; you can tell.

53:30 – We’re not done! Al saw Brainstorm and just had to talk about Christopher Walken some more. But, you’ll be glad to hear, he can’t do an impression.

57:25 – But wait! We forgot to do ‘Guess the 25 Word Review’ – oh mercy me! A great chance to abuse our five listeners.

58:39 – The Great Escape slips in… a classic Christmas flick. If you like watching people getting gunned down.

59:32 – Closing down, and my traditional plea for email – send it to taglinepodcast AT gmail DOT com, ya bastards – or leave a comment below.

Have a great Christmas everybody, and we’ll talk to you in 2007!

Show #5 – Christmas Fare, Stranger Than Fiction and The D

Back again after less than a week! But considering Show #4 took a week and a bit to edit, that isn’t saying too much.

Now sporting a new and improved ‘theme’ – well, alright, a bit of music from a movie soundtrack we hacked into place at the start. Still, we’re getting there….

This time out we talk about the big Christmas movies we’re being forced into getting excited about, Eddie Murphy, The Prestige (again), Stranger Than Fiction plus Tenacious D’s debut flick… are they as good on screen as they are on CD? Download and find out.

25:30 – Al on Brick… the one with the guy whose name we can never remember.
