Monthly Archive for November, 2006

And, we’re back.

Thought you’d seen the last of us, eh? Eh? Well I don’t put up teasing graphics for our return for no good reason, oh no.

Tagline hath returned, and in different forms, both inside and out. As you’ll see from a quick scan below, for almost two months (Jesus we’re slow) we’ve been working on bringing Tagline back from the grave. After listening to other, random podcasts and yes, even some about movies we decided that dammit, we could do our own if we put our mind to it. So that’s what we did.

Of course, the fact that we took two months to get to my arbitrary ‘launch’ point (of having three podcasts completed) doesn’t exactly bode well for the future. I fully hope the weight of your public opinions will keep us on the straight and narrow.

In the meantime, bear with us. I’m having enough difficulty figuring out how to use WordPress, with its plugins and cleverness, and I just managed to un-break it after doing something really stupidly simple. So simple, in fact, that I don’t trust myself to figure out iTunes support. Yet. So for now, feel free to listen to our first three podcasts, or download them from here, and I’ll be back with a fully-automated whizzy feed before too long….

Show #3: The Departed, Borat and Bond

Well we’re back, and although I know none of you missed us (because you didn’t even know we existed) I can assure you, we missed you. Deeply. So it does my heart proud to return.

With such a long absence we felt like we had to really make it up to you with an extra long show, so we pulled out all the stops for this one, and it’s packed with content. I hear you groaning, you cheeky bugger.

And good news! Much less creaky microphone action, although it’s still there if you really listen for it and if you are that person who comments, I will hunt you down and kill you while you sleep. Just sayin’.

Show Notes:

  • 00:00 – Worst introduction ever, which is, y’know, saying something.
  • 02:06 – The actual start of the show. If you skipped the front part, that’s okay, but you’re really not a fan, now are you.
  • 02:36 – Guess The 25 Word Review. Look how fast that intro was, after that practice run.
  • 04:00 – News. Cue news theme. Actually we don’t have one. But if we did, it would introduce a story headline ‘Boffo BO for Borat’.
  • 11:30 – Putting the boot into other movies not called Borat.
  • 12:33 – Al dredges up a rumour regarding The Vega Brothers…
  • 15:57 – Let me get the plot of this rumoured movie… twin brothers.
  • 18:23 – But what is John Travolta up to these days, anyway?
  • 19:00 – Al lists the movies John Travolta starred in post-Pulp Fiction. But why, Al, why?
  • 20:01 – Have you ever wondered why Ain’t It Cool News is called that? Believe it or not, it involves John Travolta.
  • 22:41 – It’s still going, but we have to talk about Battlefield Earth, right?
  • 25:50 – The Big Review… it’s The Departed. Overrated and over here…
  • 27:46 – Period hair.
  • 34:30 – “Who’s Devil is better – Jack Nicholson, or Al Pacino?”
  • 38:05 – Al’s theory on The Departed’s critical success. It’s a good ‘un.
  • 42:41 – Sidetracking into Tom Cruise co-running United Artists. No shit. I say at one point that he owns it, but I am totally wrong, and just can’t be arsed to edit myself.
  • 43:44 – Al is convinced Tom Cruise will be remaking Five Easy Pieces soon….
  • 46:23 – Bond. Is back.
  • 56:21 – By this point, we’re talking about remaking Dr. No.
  • 1:00:16 – Just to prove it – Barbara Woodhouse really existed
  • 1:03:18 – Finally, other movies….
  • 1:03:30 – The Prestige, and how it could easily related to Labyrinth.
  • 1:05:30 – The History Boys, and gay critics.
  • 1:06:31 – Tideland and a pleading director.
  • 1:09:16 – The Simpsons Movie… trailer.
  • 1:10:40 – Spider-Man 3 trailer… what, you thought we could get through a whole podcast without talking about a superhero flick?
  • 1:11:23 – The 25 Word Review… revealed!
  • 1:12:13 – And we’re… outta here!Thanks for listening folks.
